Hitting our stride, the vegetables are flowing steadily from fava beans and radicchio to new potatoes, cipollini onions, and carrots, and now tomatoes and garlic. The Garlic Round Up was a great success and CSA members enjoyed rolling up their sleeves at the farm to help out and enjoy a lovely summer evening meal together.
Earlier in the month, summer campers from the Urban Ecology Center toured the farm and joined in the treasure hunt that is a potato harvest, and members of the Friends of Real Food group enjoyed a visit and helped out with some weeding.
Thanks to all the CSA members, worker share members Amanda and Reanna, and fabulous volunteers AnDrew, Jamie, Quintin, Kyle, Sarah, Susan, Ann, my mom and dad, and others for helping to get the Summer Vegetable Share off to a smooth and bountiful start. The boxes are full with beautiful produce, the weather is cooperating, and it looks to be a great farm season.

The Spring Greens share was a great success, with hundreds of pounds of succulent lettuce, arugula, spinach, and other greens flowing out of the unheated hoophouse and into households and local restaurant kitchens even in the chill of April.
Sales to the Braise RSA (Restaurant Supported Agriculture) continue, with fresh, couldn’t-get-more-local greens going to area restaurants that are committed to supporting local farms. More information on the Braise family of businesses here.

I am excited to announce the details of my CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) subscription program for this year. If you are not familiar with CSA, it is a way for customers to support a local farm by becoming a member for the season and receiving a box of produce each week. Many of you are already members of other wonderful CSA farms in the area, but I wanted to share my plans with you too, in case you know of anyone else who may be interested.
There are several share options available, including spring and fall greens, and 3 pick-up sites to choose from: Wauwatosa , Bayview, and Riverwest neighborhoods. Take a look at the attached brochure for all the details, and don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions. Space is limited, so please reply early.
Download the sign-up form here.
What is Honey Hill Gardens?
Honey Hill Gardens is a small urban farm, under 10 miles from downtown Milwaukee, that offers truly local food and a new model of land use. Vegetables, flowers and honey are produced using only organically approved methods, so your food dollars support a local farmer and a sustainable planet. On this tiny piece of land, entire meals will be harvested, from legume proteins to staple grains to fresh vegetables ranging from the daring to the old standby. Produce is marketed through a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program and limited other direct marketing to restaurants, grocers, and individuals.
Through an innovative arrangement with Milwaukee County Cooperative Extension, Honey Hill Gardens is located at the Firefly Ridge Community Garden in Wauwatosa,
Wisconsin.
Thanks again for all your support and patronage; you make a local food system possible!
